This series includes correspondence, notes, drafts, clippings, presentation slides, and photographs relating to various aspects of Hamilton's contributions to the discovery of the DNA double helix.
Sub-series I: DNA 50th Anniversary contains articles, clippings and correspondence related to the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the structure of DNA in 2003.
Sub-series II: Rosalind Franklin contains correspondence from Aaron Klug and a draft of a paper refuting facts from Klug's article "Rosalind Franklin and the Discovery of the Structure of DNA."
Sub-series III: “The Double Helix” Controversies contains correspondence, articles, clippings as well as chapter by chapter notes by Hamilton in response to James Watson's 1968 book "The Double Helix."
Sub-series IV: "DNA Models and Reality" includes notes, drafts of speeches and publications, and reprints. "DNA Models and Reality" was first presented as a talk at the American Chemical Society in April 1968, then at Caltech also in April, 1968. The talk was published as a paper in Nature in May 1968, and eventually was presented as a seminar at the Sloan-Kettering Institute in June 1968.
Sub-series V: Conferences contains presentation notes and correspondence pertaining to the International Academy of Pahtology's 1959 Lymphocyte Symposium and Hamilton's 1968 seminar at the Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research.
Sub-series VI: Photographs includes professional photographs of Leonard Hamilton, diagrams of the double helix, and DNA x-ray diffraction photographs and negatives.
